Healthy Foods to Purchase in Bulk

By Anthony K

Indoor life has become part of our lives, especially when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world. This has increased the need to purchase foods in bulk in our homes. Purchasing food in bulk also offers the advantage of saving time and money. Just ensure you have enough space that’s hygienic, cool, and dry to store them. Also, be picky about the food you purchase; only go for nutritious foods that can be stored for long periods. Below are healthy foods you can buy in bulk.

Nuts

While it is common to think that because nuts are full of fats, they are unhealthy, this is not always the case. Instead, in the average supermarket, you will find healthy nuts options that are great for weight loss. These nuts contain healthy fats and are nutritious. For example, many tree nuts have fatty acids and polyunsaturated fats, which stimulate genes responsible for insulin metabolism and decrease the overall fat stored by the body. Nuts go rancid after some time when left at room temperature. To ensure they go for weeks or months still with their excellent nutritional properties and delicious flavors, store them in a freezer or fridge.

Oats

Oats are relatively affordable, full of soluble fiber, and free of Gluten, and you shouldn’t miss them in your kitchen. You can have them as an overnight meal, as a healthier filler for crab cakes or meatloaf, and can be used for baking. In addition to the nutrients that oats add to your body, they are a great weight-loss option as they have been proved to trigger body hormones that help regulate a person’s appetite. Ensure they are in an airtight container free from contaminants, dust, and bugs. Then store them at room temperature on your pantry shelf.

Brown rice has been proven more nutritious than white rice and has an almost indefinite shelf life. It also has vitamin B, which is a natural source of energy. Brown rice will also provide the body with selenium, manganese, phosphorous, and magnesium. Store it in an airtight container, free from contaminants, insects, and dust.
